I spent many evenings in the kitchen listening to my parents speak about their own lives and the stories of my family. Perhaps, in part, because of those nights, I've always been in love with the way the idea of the past makes me feel.
I've been a professional photographer for 10 years. I'm most proud of the images that have become part of the personal stories of the people I photograph. My hope is that the audio we record will add another layer of richness to your memories.
I went to school to record music in a studio, but somehow I found myself standing in the woods with a portable recorder and a single microphone. Before long, I was recording people telling their stories in living rooms, and thinking about what porches sound like.
My interest in making recordings eventually led me to train as an archivist, and now I spend most days surrounded by recordings made by other people.
We've known each other for over 16 years, and were married in 2011. Together we are Paper Boat Recording.
